Finger On The Pulse Presents: A Dinner Party

risingtide

Recently, we got together with our friends from Finger On The Pulse at their schmancy new loft for a couple glasses of Manhattan Project. They were in the middle of planning a dinner party starring the talents of Chef David Colston from Carroll Gardens’ Prime Meats. Well why not pair David’s delectable meal with some of Garrett’s most inventive beers while FOTP lay down the soundtrack? Yeah, why not.  So, together we came up with what we’re sure will be a memorable beer dinner right here in the neighborhood.

Won’t you join us?

Here’s the nitty gritties from Finger On The Pulse:

Ladies and Gentleman, just because the summer is over, doesn’t mean that we are done with pairing great food & drinks with music.  We are happy to announce our very first dinner party, coming up on October 29th. The illustrious David Colston from Prime Meats will be presiding over the stoves, while Garrett Oliver from Brooklyn Brewery will be pouring delicious beers from their special (and unreleased) reserves for a five-course menu.  As always, Finger On The Pulse will be on the decks, pairing tasty tunes with delectable treats.  Hosted in a beautiful loft, this is a food event not to be missed.  Space is limited and going quickly, so please contact us at music@fotpnyc.com for reservation requests.

Brooklynite Wins World's Largest ArtPrize

ArtPrize winners announced

Congrats go out to Brooklyn artist, Ran Ortner for walking away with top honors in the Grand Rapids, MI ArtPrize. Besides the bragging rights for beating out over a thousand other entrants, Ran will bring $250,000 back home to Brooklyn.

More from The New York Times

Ran Ortner, a painter from Brooklyn, was named the grand-prize winner Thursday night in the ArtPrize, a public competition in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mr. Ortner’s work, “Open Water No. 24,” received the highest number of votes among 10 finalists on display across Grand Rapids, a city of 200,000 in western Michigan. He will receive $250,000. In all, the finalists shared $449,000 in awards.

The 16-day competition, created by the Web entrepreneur Rick DeVos, ended Wednesday night. It took place at 159 venues, with more than 1,200 artists participating. More than 334,000 votes were cast in the competition, open to anyone who registered in person at sites around the city. An initial round of voting ended last week, in which the top 10 were selected.

“Open Water No. 24,” a three-panel depiction of deep blue waves, was the only two-dimensional work to rank in the top 10. Second prize, worth $100,000, went to Tracy Van Duinen of Chicago, for, “Imagine That,” a colorful mosaic installed on the front wall of the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum.

The third prize of $50,000 went to Eric Daigh, of Traverse City, Mich., for “Portraits,” a series of three pictures created from pushpins. Complete results are at www.artprize.org.

Brooklyn Local 2 Review From Chicago Tribune

local 2

Slowly but surely we’ve been expanding our sales in Chicagoland. Distribution that  started with our Brooklyn Lager in 2006 has now expanded to include all of our core styles in addition to some seasonal and now, our Big Bottles. Jerald O’Kennard just put up a complimentary review of our Belgian-inspired Local 2.

See?

From Chicago Tribune

What makes it special: Now that we are firmly into autumn, foods are getting richer, and your beer should follow suit. Styled after dark Belgian ale, this domestic craft beer from Brooklyn Brewery in New York is made with European malts and hops, brown sugar, wildflower honey and orange zest. It is bottled in an impressively sculpted, Champagne-like cork-and-wire-cage-adorned 750-milliliter bottle and packs an 8 percent alcohol wallop. Belgian-style ales are meant to savor and share. The Local 2 goes great with roasted vegetables and seasonal braised game. It’s available year-round, but this is the season that it shines the brightest.

In the glass: Deep reddish mahogany color with a tan head. Aromas of caramel on buttered dark toast, honey and orange peel follow through on a round, foamy entry to a fruity yet dry, medium to full body with tangy apple skin, dried citrus and toffee notes. Finishes with a nice, grassy hop and pepper-accented fade. A rock solid food beer.

Where to buy it: In stores such as Armanetti Beverage Mart and The Noble Grape in Chicago ($10-$10.50 a bottle). In bars, Rocking Horse and The Map Room in Chicago ($12).

Pretty much just about any group that can legitimately claim to benefit or beautify Brooklyn has a good chance of receiving a product donation for an event, i.e. delicious New York-brewed beer. Anywho, tomorrow, we’re hopping down to Gowanus to support the Brooklyn Skillshare. And yes, it’s gettin’ a lil’ granola over there. Check out all the different skills you can pick up during the day long and very affordable Brooklyn Skillshare after the jump.

NY Cares Art of Caring Raises $16k

Thanks to everyone who made Oct 1st’s Art of Caring Happy Hour a resounding success. By the end of the night after all the raffle prizes were given away, the music died down, and the revelers dispersed, the event raised an astounding $16,000. This money will enable more volunteers to teach children how to read, help at-risk youth get into college, feed the homeless, and much more.
