Bikes go with Brooklyn the way cars go with LA and unmanned rovers go with Mars; they’re just the best way to get around. That’s why we’re so thrilled to sponsor the 23rd annual Century Ride Bike Tour. While it had humble beginnings, this venerable NYC event has grown to over 6,000 participants over the years. From a 15-miler for amateurs to the vaunted 100 mile trek for diehard cyclists, they’ve got a route for everyone. This year’s shortest trip goes from Manhattan’s Central Park to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, while the century ride will send you into the furthest reaches of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. We urge the most enterprising of cyclists to consider peddling through New York Bay to Staten Island and make a clean sweep of the boroughs.
Non-members should register by August 19 for $60, or from August 20 to September 7 for $65. Readers of BrooklynBloggery.com get an extra incentive: the discount “ilovebkbrew” is good for $10 off online registration until September 7th. Sign up on or before September 7th, and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a new Trek bike.
All proceeds go to Transportation Alternatives, an organization fighting to make New York a better city for cycling, walking and public transportation.
