Velkommen E.C. Dahls

Our latest sister brewery, E.C. Dahls’, is finally open! On Thursday, August 4, our Trondheim sister brewery officially joined the family, throwing open its doors to pour beer and serve food to scads of hungry and thirst Norwegians. It was thrilling to finally see the team in action, and getting to hang out in the sprawling Tasting Room and courtyard was even cooler.

E.C Dahl’s is starting off with four core beers:

E.C. Dahl’s Pilsner (4.5% ABV) has been a household name in Norway since the original E.C. Dahl brewed the first batch in 1856. If you’ve never had it, snap it up quick and see why it fully deserves the hype.

Lamo Wit (5.2% ABV) is a refreshing Belgian-style witbier, brewed with Curacao orange peels, coriander, and rosehip for a touch of extra joy. Brand Ambassador Kristian Berger swears by the spritzy beer for pairing with Trondheim’s famous seafood.

Bolt IPA (6.9% ABV) is a West Coast-style IPA emboldened with a strong Bravo and Amarillo dry hopping. The beer is named after Archbishop Aslak Bolt, who lived from 1377-1450 when Trondheim was still called Nidaros. He required everyone who rented land from the church at the time to plant hops for communal brewing, cementing his place in the hearts of generations of Nordic brewers.

Pepra Saison (6.5% ABV) is a lively saison brewed with white pepper and the ancient herb hyssop. This spicy, floral farmhouse ale is sure to be an instant hit at the dinner table and wherever parties may take you.

If you’re lucky, you might also run into a few of the E.C. Dahl’s BETA beers. These experimental beers spring from the fevered brow of Brewmaster Wolfgang Lindell to push the boundaries of styles, brewing techniques, and ingredients in pursuit of something amazing.

Keep an eye out for:

Dahl’s Eksport unfiltered, original strength beer made for long journeys.

Norwegian India Pale Lager, a hoppy dunkel brewed the day after Reinheitsgebot’s 500th anniversary.

Amarillo Wheat, a helles weissbeer brewed with a heaping helping of Amarillo hops.

Dahls Fest Øl, a traditional Oktoberfest-ready bock beer that’s surprisingly fitting for summer weather.

Chili-Chocolate Porter, a rich, dark porter with a serious flash of attitude.

And where to find such wonderful beers? Aside from the Tasting Room of the brewery itself, you can catch up with the Dahl’s crew and their creations– along with a few of our own Brooklyn offerings– at a few events around town:

Thursday, August 4: Trondheim Brewery Festival

Wednesday, August 10: Øyafestivalen

Thursday, August 18: Pstereo Festival

Good luck tracking down those BETAs, and be sure to come say hello in the E.C. Dahl’s Tasting Room soon. You know we’ll be there for a while– hey, someone has to try all those beers.

EC Dahls beer to the us?

I am excited to visit the new EC Dahls brewery in Trondheim this fall! But what are the chances of you bringing this beer over to the states?

    • Tim Rozmus

We don’t have any immediate plans to bring E.C. Dahl’s beers stateside, but we’re sure they’ll make the voyage some day.
