Come on over to Roulette on Thursday, January 10 for the First Annual Roulette Benefit, honoring ASCAP Vice President and Director of Concert Music Frances Richard and featuring a performance by revered composer/performer Meredith Monk. From Roulette:
“A pioneer in “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance,” composer, singer, director/choreographer Meredith Monk creates works that thrive at the intersection of music and movement, image and object, light and sound in an effort to discover and weave together new modes of perception. Her groundbreaking exploration of th voice as an instrument, as an eloquent language in and of itself, expands the boundaries of musical composition, creating landscapes of sound that unearth feelings, energies, and memories for which there are no words. Meredith Monk will present a unique work for this special occasion.
Roulette’s inaugural benefit honoree, Frances Richard, Vice President and Director of Concert Music at ASCAP, has been a tireless advocate for composers for over two decades. She helped create Meet The Composer with John Duffy and ran the concert division of ASCAP, opening it up to jazz composers as well as classical artists. Roulette honors and thanks Fran for her lifelong dedication to composers.
Roulette is unique in its persistent commitment to new, experimental work and the artists who make it. The First Annual Benefit will not only support Roulette’s mission of providing artists with a premier venue to perform, but also grant them access to affordable rehearsal space and high quality sound and video recording facilities.”
Tickets are available at several price levels, and are sure to go quickly. Make sure you don’t miss this night of music and celebration.
