BREWMASTER FOR JEJU BREWING COMPANY (JEJU ISLAND, SOUTH KOREA)

Jeju Brewing Company, a new joint venture between local South Korean entrepreneurs and New York’s Brooklyn Brewery, is seeking an experienced and committed Brewmaster to head the brewing team at Jeju Brewing Company. Jeju Island, famous as a virtual paradise of spectacular natural beauty, is home to 600,000 people and plays host to over 10 million visitors per year. The Jeju Brewing Company will provide locally brewed, sustainably produced craft beers to the people and visitors of Jeju, and intends to be a pioneer and leader in Korean craft beer.

The new brewery will include a fully automated Inotec 60HL brewhouse, fermentation capacity for approximately 40,000HL per year, yeast propagation and storage, centrifuge and filtration, state-of-the-art bottling and kegging lines, and a well-equipped laboratory.

The Brewmaster will head a team comprised of over a dozen full time positions encompassing all areas of brew house operations- brewing, cellaring, filtration, packaging, maintenance, and quality control. Team Jeju will be creating new craft beers for this brewery and will be engaged in work that is both technical and creative, focused on quality, and constantly innovative.

The brewery will be producing both bottled and kegged beer, some of which will be served on-premises at the bar, restaurant that will be an integral part of the facility. The Brewmaster candidate will need reasonable fluency in English, and would be expected to eventually gain some use of the Korean language as well.  We are looking for someone who is prepared to work hard, make great beer and lead a team focused on excellence.

Responsibilites:

  • Drive the installation process of the new brewery, to be delivered in 2016, together with the General Manager
  • Oversee the brewing and packaging operations of the new 50 HL automated brewhouse
  • Manage brewery personnel across multiple shifts, plus any apprentices
  • Lead the creative development process alongside counterparts at Brooklyn Brewery
  • Manage brewing logistics, including production scheduling, ingredient ordering, record-keeping and inventory management
  • Serve as a representative of Jeju Brewing Company in front of the media and the public
  • Help create a safe, dynamic, fun, and collaborative work environment

Qualifications:

  • At least seven years of professional brewing experience at a packaging (bottling and kegging) production brewery
  • A degree from a professional brewing education program
  • Experience with quality control, laboratory procedures and yeast management
  • Experience managing other brewery employees
  • Experience working with both manual and automated brewing systems is preferred; basic computer skills are required

A strong work ethic, the ability to multi-task while remaining focused on consistent quality and safety, and the ability to work both independently and with a team are all essential.  Mechanical aptitude is a major plus. We are looking for someone who communicates well and is able to lead a team doing great work and enjoying it. The right individual will be someone who is prepared to bring obsessive commitment to brewing world-class beer.

The Brewmaster will travel to New York annually to interact with the Brooklyn Brewery brewing team and management. Compensation is competitive (including housing allowances) and commensurate with experience.

MARKETING ASSISTANT (BROOKLYN, NYC)

The Brooklyn Brewery is seeking a part-time Marketing Assistant to join The Marketing Unit. The Marketing Unit handles all of Brooklyn Brewery’s advertising, events, web, brand development, social media, and public relations activities. The Marketing Assistant will assist the department on a wide variety of projects related to these efforts. This is a very hands-on position that demands consistency, dedication, creative thinking, and a love for detail.

Applicants must have a knowledge and appreciation of craft beer & food, a firm grasp on popular culture & social media, and previous experience in an office or marketing environment. The Marketing Assistant will not assist with the Brewery's social media. Top candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, a proven passion for Brooklyn, excellent problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn.

The Marketing Assistant will report to the Field Marketing Manager. They must be based in NYC and have the ability to arrange for a consistent part-time schedule.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the day to day operations of the brewery’s Community Support Program, our very first form of marketing and the foundation of our modern day marketing program.
  • Assisting with Sales support, including organizing & tracking incoming requests for marketing assets

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP (BROOKLYN, NY)

The Brooklyn Brewery is seeking a design intern to join the Marketing Unit. The design intern will work onsite to apply the Brewery's iconic branding to posters, social media images, and other assets. Interns will prioritize and manage multiple projects while learning and practicing design skills.

Applicants should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from college. Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro is suggested. The ideal candidate knows when and how to use bleed, follows written instructions easily, and makes excellent subtle design puns. We'd like to see an interest in craft beer and Brooklyn culture, and an eagerness to learn.

Compensation: Hourly, plus course credit (if applicable)

PLANT ENGINEER (BROOKLYN, NY)

The Brooklyn Brewery is seeking an experienced, self-motivated engineer that is both hands-on and exceptionally well organized. This individual must be a good team player and have good communication skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help establish organizational platform to assign and monitor preventative maintenance measures
  • Develop and manage maintenance schedules and coordinate staff of 2 maintenance engineers
  • Learn plant processes and operation of all equipment
  • Draft and maintain plant wide piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Maintain process control system (based on Siemens Step 7 platform) including software, hardware systems and coordinate system changes or repairs with our controls engineering partners
  • Establish relationships with equipment manufacturers and service technicians to assist in commissioning, training, and maintaining production equipment
  • Assist in drafting and coordinating plans for installation crews

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent college degree in Engineering
  • 2-3 years minimum experience in a production environment preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of process control systems based on Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms preferred
  • Skills and experience with Auto CAD preferred  
  • Attention to detail, strong organization skills, good communication
  • Understanding of the brewing process and packaging processes preferred

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Account Management

The Sales & Marketing Representative acts as the primary face of the Brewery in the assigned territory.

  • Territory Planning and Management: Develops, with the Region Manager, a territory management structure that ensures that markets, distributors, accounts, and consumers are touched with the appropriate frequency. Market times always includes a prepared visit plan that uses anecdotal, VIP, or syndicated data, visits to a defined list of Core Accounts, time spent with distributor reps in work-with settings, and consumer interactions (events, tastings, etc). The Brewery Sales & Marketing Representative is always 100% prepared to sell at all times with samples and support materials. Specific activities include:
    • New Business: Sells in new distribution to all on- and off-premise accounts.
    • Brand building: Collaborates with accounts & marketing department to develop a variety of promotion opportunities, including regular events.
    • Velocity: Partners with the marketing department to sell in volume-enhancing signage and programs to accounts and merchandises products where legal.
    • Education: Educates distributors, retailers, and consumers in the territory on all general brewery and brand knowledge via distributor sales meeting presentations, work-withs, retail staff educations, consumer tastings and events.
    • Quality: Physically inspects all products in all settings for freshness and ensures all brewery collateral in the market match brewery Style Guide standards.
    • Communication: Writes brief market visit recap emails to distributors weekly that list achievements and needed follow-up help.
    • Relationships: Develops and maintains strong relationships with distributor and retail people.
    • Knowledge: Knows brewery products in detail, has Cicerone Level 1 Certification and TIPS training within three months of hire date, and has a good understanding of local alcoholic beverage laws and industry dynamics.     • Market Ethics: Acts professionally at all times, is responsible with alcohol, and avoids unsavory sales tactics.

 Event planning and co-ordination:

  • Assisting the delivery of key events under Brooklyn Brewery and HOB Marketing Manager
  • Managing the delivery of brand assets to agreed events.
  • Representing the brand at festivals.
  • Working with existing partners and establishing new partnerships where appropriate

Trade Marketing:

  • Presenting brand values and building relationships with key accounts as directed by National Sales Manager.
  • Ensuring brand presentation within accounts maximises exposure in line with brand guidelines.
  • Delivering trade level marketing activities (beer dinners, beer release parties and tastings).
  • Managing POS distribution against a budget.

 Merchandise:

  • Developing and managing channels for retail of brand Merchandise.

 Communications:

  • Managing brand communications to trade.
  • Manage French social media such as twitter, facebook and instagram.
  • PR for special and seasonally released beers.
  • Promotion and PR for events.

EVENT AMBASSADOR (MULTIPLE TERRITORIES)

The Brooklyn Brewery is seeking an affable, outgoing beer enthusiast to represent our brand at a variety of events in and around multiple beer-centric regions worldwide. This part-time job is responsible for executing a variety of promotional events in bars, restaurants and stores. Promoting Brooklyn Brewery as a spokesperson for our beers and forging relationships on The Brewery's behalf are all primary obligations.

The right candidate will already be a member of the nightlife scene of their home market, with existing relationships that can help position the Brooklyn brand. A familiarity with food trends, contemporary music, film, comedy, and local culture are big plusses.

Responsibilities include:

Coordination between sales reps, venue, and headquarters
Event set-up and tear-down
Capturing and processing newsletter signups
Social media
Engaging with consumers in an easy and fun manner in order to raise brand awareness
Creating new contacts

Event Ambassadors will represent The Brewery on average four times a month.
