I stumbled on this admittedly accurate rip of our Summer Ale label on Twitter recently, and promptly sank into turmoil. Sure, this is a pretty overt copy of our label. But the thing is, I really like Bad Timing Records. I’ve been listening to Kevin Devine since I was a half-punk, mostly-stupid middle schooler on Long Island. And the fact that they even used the right font is genuinely impressive to me.
I was on the verge of total forgiveness, when I spotted something else: Bad Timing Records koozies! As a koozie disciple, I was elated until spotting the quote on the bottom: “You can have any brew you want, as long as it’s a Corona.-Dominic Toretto.” Woof. Of all the knife twists, I never expected Vin Diesel to wield the blade.
So, a reluctant cheers to Bad Timing Records on this one. Thanks for the music, and well done on the font. But please, let’s get a Summer Ale in that koozie (and a new logo please!)
In a rare moment of action for Today in Copyright Infringement, Bad Timing Records has responded to us on Twitter! It turns out they’re fans of our beer, just like we’re fans of their music. It gave us– well, me– a solid case of the warm fuzzies. The aforementioned koozies will have to be a limited-time kind of thing, but hopefully this is the start of a wonderful friendship.Back to all blog posts
