The Great Northern Hotel has 19 beer taps, and for Good Beer Week at least 13 of these will be hosting some of the USA’s finest beers.

Come down any time all week and sample some unique brews. Sit back and relax in our beer garden, enjoy some food and work your way through all the states.

Join five brewers from here and abroad, hosted by Jayne Lewis from Two Birds Brewing, to discuss the beer that was their “wow, this s**t is amazing” moment, as well as one of their current brews. Taste the 10 beers and join us in an informal discussion of both theirs and your Epiphany Beer.

Brewers from Moo Brew, Feral Brewing, Two Birds Brewing, Brooklyn Brewery and Renaissance Brewing Company will be in attendance.

Second Annual Stockholm Taco Experiment (Sweden)

The planet’s premier amateur cook-off competition, The Food Experiments returns to Sweden for a flavor-packed soirée featuring homemade tacos from the nations’s “finest, most committed, passionate, intense, and possibly craziest home chefs”. Tickets to the Swedish Taco Experiment (at Debaser Slussen) include a complimentary Brooklyn beer, unlimited samples, and the chance to vote along with a panel of professional judges to crown the next cook-off king or queen of Sweden. Aside from cash and a bundle of cooking equipment, winners receive a lifetime supply of Culinary Glory.

From the Food Experiments: ”After last year’s successful Swedish Chili Experiment, the Food Experiments are extremely excited to return to Stockholm. Theo Peck and Nick Suarez, the team behind the Experiments, cannot wait to present the second annual Swedish TACO Experiment… The tacos will range from the savory to the sweet. EAT THE CITY: FARMING THE FIVE BOROUGHS

On rooftops, in vacant lots and warehouses, New Yorkers are planting and harvesting a bounty of city-grown crops. A roundtable of local farmers, led by Eat the City author Robin Shulman, discuss the challenges and rewards of growing food in the most urban of environments. A tasting menu, prepared from local produce, will be served.

TORRISI ITALIAN SPECIALTIES

Dubbed the “future of Italian food in America” by the NY Times, Chefs Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone of Torrisi Italian Specialtieschannel the eclectic immigrant flavors of Chinatown, the Lower East Side and Little Italy into their distinctly local take on Italian-American cuisine. Mitchell Davis, VP of the James Beard House, joins to tackle the question of what it means to cook “Italian” in today’s New York. A tasting will follow the discussion.
