Peaceful Minds is a non-profit community wellness center offering free complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage therapy, Reiki, yoga & mediation to our combat veterans who served in the Global War on Terror and may be suffering from post-combat stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain and substance abuse. Peaceful Minds and the self help techniques that they teach assists veterans to successfully return and acclimate to civilian life.
Tickets to the event will cost $40 each for open bar featuring beer and wine and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets will also be sold at the door. The evening will feature a 50/50 raffle, t-shirts and a display of unique expressions of the American Flag painted by some of Peaceful Minds’ very own Veterans and will be available for purchase. Peaceful Minds will also be creating a beautiful book that will include photos of the paintings as well as advertisements from sponsors supporting our cause.
Come to the Brooklyn Brewery on Wednesday, November 12 at 7 PM for the inaugural Michael Jackson Beer & Whiskey Fest. While many are quick to jump to the King of Pop on hearing his name, Michael Jackson was a luminary writer credited with rekindling worldwide interest in beer and whiskey through his books and articles. His influence reached many of the best and brightest in these industries, including our own Garrett Oliver. Mr. Jackson sponsored Garrett as a judge at the Great British Beer Festival in the early days of his career, and the two quickly became colleagues and peers. To celebrate Michael Jackson’s dedication to everyone’s favorite beverages, some of New York State’s finest brewers and distillers will come together in his honor at this festival. More than twenty breweries and distilleries will provide paired pours for the evening, kicking off a collaboration between each duo that will next year will result in a barrel-aged beer from each partnership. These companies so far include:
- Brooklyn Brewery and NY Distilling Company
- Brewery Ommegang and Catskill Distilling Co.
- Abandon Brewing and Black Button Distilling
- Empire Brewing and Myer Farm Distillers
- Ithaca Beer Co. and Finger Lakes Distilling
- Saranac and Black Dirt Distillery
- Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. and Tuthilltown Spirits
- Greenport Harbor Brewing Company and Long Island Spirits
- Southern Tier Brewing Company and Industry City Distillery
- Adirondack Brewing and Harvest Spirits
- Gun Hill Brewery and Port Morris Distillery
- Grimm Artisanal Ales and Kings County Distillery
- Peekskill Brewery and TBA
Bites will be provided for between sips by Kickshaw Cookery, highlighting NY State ingredients. Tickets are $55, with a portion of the proceeds going toward awarding the Michael Jackson Scholarship for brewing and distilling education. Join us in this celebration of New York State’s beer and spirits and help support the next generation of brewers and distillers.
