Stand-ups, actors, The Moth participants as well as chefs and other personalities and provocateurs take turns telling only their funniest stories in our Tasting Room. Tickets are $10 and include a free beer.]
Here’s Tom Shillue on why great stories and great beer are a match made in Brooklyn:
Well, the first of our monthly “Funny Story” live events at Brooklyn Brewery was a thing of beauty and a joy forever. And I’m not much for hyperbole, you can ask anyone. I like true stories. Funny stories. The kind you can sit back and chew on and wash down with a nice draught. Which is just what we did in June — lets see, we had Philip Galinsky of The Manahattan Monologue Slam with an audition story gone bad, Walter Schreifels with a (wait a minute, Walter Schreifels? Yes – this Walter Schreifels. I saw him sing one night and knew he had stories to tell. I was not wrong.) Bobby Tisdale tore up the floor with a cat story, which is causing me to wince even as I recount it now. And we closed out the show with SNL’s John Mulaney, whose yarns are as oversized and colorful as a Cosby Sweater.
Now, where to go from here? Our July show is already making me tingle with the excitement. Jon Glaser and Gavin McIness are a couple of the most interesting guys in New York. The opportunity to hang with both of them for a night is rare indeed. Take that opportunity! Here’s Gavin the last time he did Funny Story. I am going to introduce you to Annamarie Tendler and you are going to love her. And Seth Herzog who has funny stories for me whenever I do Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where he does warm up, and whenever I do his excellent show [sweet], which is one of the most eclectic and interesting live shows in NYC.
Obviously I don’t have to sell you on this show. When Creaghead Co. and I drew this lineup out of our silk top hat of favourite performers, we turned in profile and screamed directly into each other’s faces like two boys in a teen comedy. If this crew comes and reads the inactive ingredients from the back of a bottle of sunscreen it will be riveting. See you there!
