Are You You Opening Party @ MoCADA

areyouyou-slider-800x288

Celebrate the official opening of ARE YOU YOU at MoCADA on Saturday, April 26th at 7pm. The work of Shantell Martin is a meditation of lines; a language of characters, creatures and messages that invite her viewers to share a role in her creative process. Part autobiographical, and part dreamlike whimsy, Martin has created her own world that bridges fine art, commercial art and the everyday experience — conversations, objects and places. ARE YOU YOU is a site specific installation exploring change, flow and identity.

On Thursday, April 27, Steve Hindy, Brooklyn Brewery Co-Founder and President and author of the forthcoming Craft Beer Revolution, will take part in Food Book Fair’s Food + Social Entrepreneurship, a conversation about launching and leading socially conscious businesses. As the fair so aptly points out: “a natural launchpad for enterprise, small food and drink establishments are an ideal vehicle to employ socially conscious practices.” This has certainly been our experience. Joining Steve on this panel are Ellen Gustafson, Co-Founder of FEED and Food Tank, author of We the Eaters and Christophe Hille of Northern Spy Food Co. and Fleisher’s Grass-fed Organic Meats. The panel will be moderated by Alex Postman, Executive Editor of Rodale Books. Book signing with Steve Hindy to follow. Tickets for the panel are available through Togather. Food + Design: New York’s Nouveau Food Halls @ New York Institute of Technology

GENERICCROWD_bottle

Join Culintro on Monday, April 28th to learn about the intricacies of designing and building Food Halls. Until recently, New York City food aficionados would have had to buy a plane ticket to experience the incomparable delicacies and endless options that exist at classic international food halls. Now food halls seem to be popping up as frequently as food trucks, and on a much grander scale.

The popularity of the Food Hall is not solely based on the food but also on the aesthetic and design. Top designers from across the country have targeted this gourmand culture and have built and created these Food Halls to entice and inspire. Adam Farmerie, Partner at the design firm AvroKO, along with Christopher Jaskiewicz, Chief Operating Officer of Gotham Organization, Inc., will speak about their recent development of Gotham West, as well as a few other under-the-radar projects in development; Renowned designer, Jeffrey Beers, will speak about his work designing the Plaza Food Hall, along with Kristin Franzese, Executive Vice President of Retail at The Plaza Hotel/The Plaza Brand. The conversation will be moderated by Stacy Rauen, Editor-in-Chief of HD Magazine.

And what would a discussion of food halls be without a little tasting. Various items from local food halls will be available for sampling, and Brooklyn Brewer beers will be served. Tickets are $40 for non-members and available here:
