On Thursday September 13th, days before the Jewish New Year, over 500 people gathered at the Namal in Tel Aviv for SLIDELUCK Tel Aviv II. We were privileged to be hosted at Hangar 11′s new building and joined by Casey Kelbaugh – who has become a local celebrity in Israel and who served up some traditional apples and honey for Rosh Hashanah.
The Potluck portion of the night was set up outside of the Hangar in a grassy picnic style fashion with food carts provided by the Shuk Hanamal. We had tastings from several of the Shuk Hanamal vendors – including some amazing pasta (Fiori) that people could not get enough of. We also had delicious ice cream from Iceberg. Lots of people went all out preparing all kinds of dishes. The food portion of the night was organized by Inbal Baum of Delicious Israel who made sure that everyone got photographed with their dish. To wash down all this great food we had a bar stacked with Winter Ale & Summer Ale from Brooklyn Brewery.
The Slideshow portion of the night was curated by Vardit Gross with a great selection of Israeli and international artists. Some of the highlights were Michal Cheblin, Ron Arad, Shahar Markus, and Spencer Tunick. We got to enjoy a live DJ Set from EMI artist N8N who just arrived from Belgium to attend Slideluck. There was also a nice birthday celebration for Jeff Pulver who was visiting from NY.
This was the second time that Ili Cohen and I produced Slideluck in Israel and the energy level was incredible. Our goal was to bring people together through art, food, and community and this event really worked. To see hundreds of people with full stomachs and a slight buzz watching an art video show together for over an hour was surreal. A big thanks to Casey, Lila, our local team (Marilyn, Yudit, Tel Aviv Arts Council) and the incredible team at Slideluck for their amazing support. We look forward to the next one and to the new seasonal beer flavors from Brooklyn.
