Garrett Oliver, our James Beard Award-winning Brewmaster, has spent decades pushing the boundaries of beer, especially when it comes to brewing with fonio — an ancient super grain that’s been a staple in West Africa for over 5,000 years. Fonio grows without the need for pesticides, fertilizers, or irrigation, regenerating the land and supporting smallholder farmers along the way.
Last year, Garrett marked his 30th anniversary at Brooklyn Brewery by making it his mission to highlight fonio on the global stage. We launched his Brewing For Impact initiative, collaborating with seven breweries worldwide to create limited-edition fonio beers and spread the word about the incredible grain’s untapped potential.
He’s just getting started.
